FABULOUS FOR MOM FRIDAY: One Life Jewelry {GIVEAWAY}

Arlyne, the designer of the beautiful One Life Jewelry line, describes herself as a New York City soul in sunny Florida, and you can see both places reflected in her pieces.  They have the sleekness of the big city with the whimsy of the beach, and the combination is nothing short of stunning.

See what I mean?  The Tree of Wonder necklace features a gold disc engraved with family names and topped with a sterling silver tree.  Arlyne's version of the necklace has her grandparents' names on it so she can always carry their guidance with her.  Isn't that lovely?

I was born on Valentine's Day so hearts always catch my eye, and the My Growing Heart necklace also caught my, well, heart.

The brushed silver satin charm sits on a gold chain and I adore how delicate it is.  And I love Arlyne's story about the meaning behind the name - "I just recently learned that to be happy means to GROW. And in order to grow, you have to take yourself out of your comfort zone.  It is when we are faced with a big problem, or what seems to be a brick wall that we are actually being invited to step out and step up...."  Words to live by.

So many One Life Jewelry designs have a meaningful sentiment behind them, like the You Are the World To Me necklace.

With the quote "To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world," this is such a great alternative to more traditional mother or grandmother necklaces.

This Open Heart design was inspired by this saying "The dance of the flower in the wind, in the sun, in the rain, cannot be understood by the head; the heart has to be open for it."

And the One Thousand Kisses piece is decorated with crystals like teeny tiny kisses, inspired by one of my favorite lyrics from the musical RENT, "Live in my house, I'll be your shelter, Just pay me back with one thousand kisses."

One Life Jewelry also has hand-stamped initial and name necklaces but with a fun twist.  The Modern Angel has a little but of a punk edge.

And the Sweet Leaf birthstone initial necklaces have a little bit of sass.

There are so many more gorgeous necklaces and earrings in the One Life Jewelry shop.  Arlyne's tagline for the store is "Inspiring and personalized, infused with joy."  Couldn't have said it better myself!

And one lucky AFOMFT reader is going to score a piece of One Life Jewelry for her very own!  Arlyne has graciously offered to give away this beautiful Sea Star necklace engraved with the name or initials of the winner's choice.

It's the perfect piece for summertime!

POETRY FRIDAY: Book Spine Poems

I’ve been extremely busy with a number of things lately. I haven’t had much time for blogging—but I didn’t want to miss Poetry Friday this week. I decided to have a little fun with book spine poems this morning. (Note: I used only poetry books for my poems.) Here are the results:

At Blue Rose Girls, I have another book spine poem.

PENS. WINTER CLASSIC. AGAIN. YYYYEEEESSSS!!!!

This news has made my entire day week month year! From the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:
The Penguins will face Washington in the NHL's 2011 Winter Classic Jan. 1 at Heinz Field.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is expected to make a formal announcement about that, along with several other high-profile league events, during a press conference in Chicago Friday.
I MUST get tickets!!! I was lucky enough to score three tickets to the first Winter Classic on 01-01-08, and I kid you not - it was the most fun I've ever had in my life other than my wedding.

Our seats weren't as bad as this picture makes it look. I took it with my old camera so it's not that great, but if you enlarge it, you'll see Siddo and Geno at the end of the line of Penguins walking out to the ice.

And this time, the Boys will be hosting the event against the Capitals. It will be nice seeing A-hOle™ & company lose outside for a change. ;)

I added this picture of my ticket as a late edit for a conversation in The Friends' Zone.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!! GO PENS!!!!!!!

Dressed To Impress {GIVEAWAY}

I want to share a quote from William Allen Butler's "Nothing to Wear" which sums up how I feel about one of my favorite fashion pieces:
Dresses to sit in, and stand in, and walk in;
Dresses to dance in, and flirt in, and talk in.
Dresses in which to do nothing at all;
Dresses for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
In case you couldn't tell from that, I love dresses.  A lot.  And not only do I love them for myself, I adore them for Gabrielle and Alaina.  One of the most fun things about having daughters is dressing them up in fabulous frocks, and now that my little ladies are finally walking, dresses look that much better on them.  With the weather warming up now, it's truly a rare day when they're sporting shorts or gasp!  Pants.  So when I stumbled upon the delightful designs at Faith Works 4 U, I thought I'd died and gone to little girls' dress shopping heaven.  Think I'm exaggerating?  Just take a look at this retro number :

Is that not the cutest thing you've ever seen?  I die.  Just die!  And there are lots more great get ups where that came from. Gabrielle and Alaina would look so sweet in these coordinating bib dresses.

I love the little bow and the funky neckline on this A-line design.

And talk about turning lemons into lemonade!  This is the perfect ensemble for any summer picnic.

I'm a sucker for wrap dresses for me so of course I feel for this lightweight denim miniature version.

And I think the grosgrain trim on this little shift is sheer perfection.

All of the designs from Faith Works 4 U are handmade, come in sizes from 6 months up to 8 and most can be customized or ordered in a variety of fabrics which is very dangerous for a dress-obsessive like me.  I've already got four in my cart and I'm debating two more.  Paging Dr. Drew!  I think it's time for a shopping intervention!

But you might get the chance to shop guilt free because Faith from Faith Works 4 U (get it?  So cute!) has generously offered to give away one dress from her store to a lucky AFOMFT reader!  To enter, visit Faith Works 4 U and post a comment here telling me which design you'll choose if you win (this is mandatory).  For additional entries:

Should you go first : Beyond the Sunset - Blessed hope of meeting our loved ones again

Dear Friends,

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank God for seeing us through another week. It's so good to be reminded on every Thursday to count my blessings and remember to give thanks and praise to God.

♥ I thank God for giving me the joy of ministering to an elderly lady, TAM, who is 83 years old. She has been attending my church's evening services whenever she can. She has severe heart failure and may go any time. Some sisters-in-Christ and myself have been visiting her and sharing God's Words and love with her. On Monday, we took her to the hospital for a review on her heart failure and thank God that her condition is stable at the moment. She has been having some relationship problems with her children who do not know the Lord and do not care for her as much as they should. Thank God that recently she is beginning to be more sensible of the Lord's goodness to her and able to see that the Lord is extending His kindness through us to her whereas her own children do not care as much for her. She consciously say "thank the Lord" every now and then. She told my friends and I "thank the Lord for sisters like all of you who are here to help me" :) Thank God. Please pray with me for her genuine conversion. May God continue to do a deeper work of grace in her soul and grant that she may genuinely know His saving grace and find rest and comfort in Him, if she belongs to Him.

♥ Recently, I also have the joy to visit another elderly lady, LH, who is 90 years old. She too attends my church's evening service whenever she can. Sadly, her children and grandchildren too do not care very much for her and she lives alone. She has been unwell on and off and still having bad skin allergy problems on her leg and also experiencing leg pain. She related to my friend and I that recently she was unwell with several ailments and in order to save on medical expenses, she did some self-medicating. She was so thankful that our Lord restored her through these means. She beamed with  joy as she related to us what has happened and she mentioned that "thank the Lord after that I recovered". Please pray that these trials relating to her health and her other needs may continue to turn her to our Lord and she too may come to a true saving knowledge of our Lord in His time, if she belongs to Him.

♥ As I ministered to these 2 elderly lady, I realized that with their age and many illnesses, the Lord may take them home anytime. They are very dear to me and my friends. They are like our grandmothers and we love to spend time with them. It is sad that their own children and grandchildren do not take care of them. But we thank God that through these painful trials the Lord has shown them His great mercies, and they have been led to attend church and hear the Gospel. I will surely be sad should the Lord take them away one day but I am reminded of the blessed hope that believers in Christ has that one day we shall meet the Lord and our loved ones who belong to Him in Heaven. What a blessed hope.

1 Thessalonians 4
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

♥ Here is a very lovely poem "Should you go first" and the song "Beyond the sunset" with this poem in it being narrated by George Younce. When the Lord takes our loved ones home first, be it our husband, wife, father, mother, children or friends, we have the blessed hope of meeting them once again in Heaven where there will be no parting anymore if they too belong to the Lord. May we continue to labour much in prayers and sharing God's Words and love with them if they still do not know our Lord as their Lord and Saviour.

Beyond the sunset Lyrics

Beyond the sunset oh blissful morning
When with our Saviour heaven is begun
Earth stroll is ending oh glorious dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done

Poem "Should you go first" (narration)

Should you go first and I remain to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden, dear, with happy days we've known
In spring I'll watch for roses red when fades of lilac's blue
In early fall when the brown leaves call I'll catch a glimpse of you

Should you go first and I remain to finish with the scroll
No lenghtening shadows shall creep in to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness yes we've had our cup of joy
But memory is one gift of God that death cannot destroy

Should you go first and I remain for battles to be fought
Each thing you’ve touched along the way will be a hallowed spot
I’ll hear your voice I’ll see your smile
And though blindly I may grope
The memory of your helping hand will buoy me on with hope

Should you go first and I remain one thing I’ll have you do
Walk slowly down that long, long path for soon I’ll follow you
And I want to know each step you take that I may walk the same
For some day, some day down that lonely road, dear
You’ll hear me call your name

Beyond the sunset oh glad reunion
With our dear loved ones who've gone before
In that fair homeland we'll know no parting
Beyond the sunset for evermore
(For evermore)

Here is another video showing George Younce narrating this Poem "Should you go first".

♥ I thank God for my family, my church, my friends and everyone of you, my dear blogging friends, and for your prayers and encouragements. They mean a lot to me.You have made a great difference in my life by your friendship and encouragements. I thank God for every one of you. May God may your visit here a blessed one too!

Thank you for stopping by. Take care and have a blessed day!

Warm Regards,
Nancie

Pieces for the Perfect Playroom

I live in New York City so the idea of having a room solely used as a play space is a total luxury but that hasn't stopped me from bookmarking scads of things I'd incorporate into a playroom if we had one.  I even put together an Etsy Treasury filled with goodies I've found there that scream color and comfort and all of the other things I envision a playroom being.  Here's a peek at some of my fun finds:

I don't know which is my favorite.  Maybe the giraffe growth chart?  No, the giant felt balls that can be used as toys or pillows.  But wait!  There's also the felt library playhouse that you make with a card table.  You know what?  It's too hard to choose.  You can visit the treasury HERE to get more details on all of the items and decide for yourself.

So what else is on my playroom must have list?  A fanciful framed out television like this one that Ashley from Lil Blue Boo painted for a client. {get the details here}

 Cool wallpaper paneled doors like these from Martha Stewart. {find the tutorial here}

A table painted in colorful chalkboard paint surrounded by some whimsical mismatched chairs.  I adore this upholstered set {via Be Different Act Normal}:

Although something more along these lines is probably more practical! {picture from BHG.com}

And last, but certainly not least, some great flower and pom pom festooned lantern lights, like these from Crafty Nest: {the full how to can be found here}

So that's what I have planned for Gabrielle and Alaina's imaginary playroom.  There's nothing wrong with dreaming, right?

Did you find a favorite thing in my Etsy Perfect Playroom Treasury?  Or is there another fabulous find that's a must have for your little one's play space?  Post a comment and tell me all about it.  I'm a glutton for punishment!

In Honor of JW

I had a giveaway scheduled for today but I've decided to put that post on hold and share something more personal instead.  Last week, one of the wonderful members of the MoM (Mothers of Multiples) community I'm a part of lost her sweet little boy, JW.  He was born at 27 weeks, the same gestational age my girls were when they were born, and he was 20 months old when he passed, the same age my girls are now.  He spent those 20 months bringing joy to everyone who knew him, even those of us who never got to meet him face-to-face.  I'll never forget JW's big blue eyes or his beautiful smile or the fact that the little fighter managed to touch so many people in his short life.

Today, JW was laid to rest.  In his honor, all of my MoM friends dressed our families in blue and blew bubbles to let JW know we love him.  Here are Gabrielle and Alaina waving bubbles up to heaven's newest angel.

If you're the praying type, please say a prayer for JW and for the family he left behind.  If you're not, hug your loved ones a little closer tonight and be thankful for all of the beauty and joy in your life. And if you happen to have some bubbles handy, blow a few for JW.

Habs = Cheaters?

Apologies for not giving you prior warning, but I took a much needed break and had some fun in Eastern PA with my sister. I got a few funny looks and one (good natured) comment about driving an orange car with Penguins accessories all over it in Flyers country.

Hmm. I bet none of the Flyers snowjobbed this kid. (And that is seriously saying something about the A-hOle™ who did.)

So we know the Blackhawks have earned an invitation to the big dance, and tonight, the Flyers have a chance to close it out for the Eastern Conference. This is shaping up to be a Pens fan's worst nightmare, haha! Which team do you want to win? If you cheer for the Blackhawks, you'll be cheering for Hossa. If you cheer for the Flyers, well... You'll be cheering for the Flyers. That's a tough choice. Or perhaps the Habs can pull a Flyers on the Flyers and win 3 in a row for the Prince of Wales trophy and a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Share who your pick to win the Stanley Cup and why you think they're taking the big prize in The Friends' Zone.

Speaking of the Habs, though, it may be harder to root for them if the rumors are true - there may have been a little bit of underhandedness happening in Montreal this weekend. There are reports that sand was sprinkled on the Flyers' runway to their dressing room. Several Flyers players had to leave repeatedly for skate sharpenings throughout the first and second periods, lasting until the equipment manager put towels down the length of the runway so the players could walk from the dressing room to the bench without compromising the integrity of their skate blades during the third period.

So you really need to check this post out - I found it while looking for a picture of sand with a hockey stick. Incredible! :)

Of course the Canadiens are denying they had anything to do with it. (Make sure you scroll down far enough to read Jaroslav Spacek's needlessly sarcastic denial. What an arse he is.) If they did purposefully try to sabotage the Flyers, it failed epically. The Flyers shut them out 3-0. If you're watching Game 5, it's happening tonight at 7:00pm Eastern in Philly. Expect the Flyers' fans to have a few things to say about "Sandgate" during the match...

What a Friend we have in Jesus... What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.  Jeremiah 33:3

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24
Dear Friends,

Thanks for stopping by! Thank God that tomorrow is the Lord's Day. I love the Lord's Day and the joy to worship God, sing the Psalms, fellowship and serve our Lord together with His people.

On Saturdays as I prepare for the Lord's day, I love to listen to Psalms and Christian Songs that reminds me of our Lord, His love and His care for us.

I just heard this lovely song that reminded me What A Friend we have in our Lord Jesus Christ! What a precious reminded that we have a Friend in our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Creator, our Redeemer, our Saviour, our Lord, our Brother, our Friend and our Heavenly Husband. He is with us through all the ups and downs, and changing scenes in life. No matter what we go through, we can carry all our sins, burdens, griefs and cares to God in prayer through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lord Jesus Christ has reconciled us to God our Heavenly Father through His death on the cross and His resurrection to redeem us from sins and eternal condemnations. He cares for us and is with us daily. If we have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour, we can have the assurance that He will lead us through all the changing scenes in life and He is working all things for our good and His glory. He hears our cries and our prayers. He knows our needs and He is able to sustain us, deliver us and provide for all our needs. He is our Refuge and Strength. Underneath are His everlasting arms.

I need this precious reminder today as with Bipolar Disorder I experience such great fluctuations in my mood from day to day, that I need to cling unto God's precious Words and promises at all times. I know that due to sins and remaining corruptions every Christian struggles with these too but with Bipolar Disorder it is especially difficult to manage and unpredictable. I need to learn over and over again to cast all my cares and anxieties upon our Lord. I was up and well yesterday, energetic and productive, but today I feel weak, sickly, down and having headaches. As I struggled to get up this morning I have to remind myself over and over again that God loves me and He is with me. I prayed and asked the Lord for strength and grace to live for Him. Though I am weak, He is strong. His grace is sufficient for me.
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Hebrews 4:14-16

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
What a privilege to be able to carry all our burdens to our Lord and cast all our cares upon Him!
What A Friend We Have In Jesus Lyrics

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.

FABULOUS FOR MOM FRIDAY: Tamara Handbags {GIVEAWAY}

MOM MADNESS MONTH was such a huge hit on AFOMFT that I decided to start doing a weekly post focusing on fantastic products for moms.  Without further ado, here's the first FABULOUS FOR MOM FRIDAY feature....

I have a thing for bags.  You could call it an obsession but that sounds so.... I don't know, sinister.  It's more like a love affair, and I have to admit, I have a new crush on Tamara Handbags.

Tamara, the lovely lady behind the designs, and I went to college together and in 2003, she started her own line of handbags and accessories.  Since then, her bags have been seen on celebrities including Britney Spears and featured in magazines like Lucky and Us.  All of her pieces are named after her friends so I get excited when there's one titled for someone I know, like the Aria (who was my roommate junior year).  There's even a Danielle laptop bag.
I don't think it was technically named after me, but I love it anyway!

You can shop Tamara Handbags by style or fabric.  My personal favorite?  The Luisa clutch in brown multi-color.  It's perfect for summer.

I also love the leather trim on the Carly style.

And the Ashley.

If you want a small bag but can't live without a strap, check out the adorable Mandy wristlet.

You can attach both ends of the strap to one side and wear it on your wrist:

Or put clip the straps on opposite sides of the bag so you can wear it over your shoulder.  It's like having two bags in one!

Another style I have my eye on is the Amy Triple Zip Satchel in brown paisley.  This design has three different compartments for so you can tote everything you need and keep it organized.  I can totally see this becoming my go-to bag!

And if you're looking for something more classic, the Andrea Satchel in batik paisley will get you through all four seasons in style.

Before I had Gabrielle and Alaina, I never carried big bags, but now that I'm dragging blankets and sippy cups wherever we go, small ones don't make the cut anymore.  The Anya tote is just the right size for all the girls' stuff and the pink paisley fabric keeps it from being boring.

Tamara is the mom of an 18 month old so she knows very well what makes a great baby bag.  Her diaper bag designs, like the rest of her line, are functional but stylish at the same time.  I love that the Leila comes in a subtle polka dot pattern so dads can't object to carrying it, but the changing pad is a fun red paisley that gives the bag a little sass.

And the Leah baby messenger is great because it can be carried three ways - over the shoulder, across your chest or hung off your stroller.

It comes in two patterns and has a coordinating changing pad, hot pink lining and more pockets than you'll know what to do with!
What more could you ask for?

I can personally vouch for the quality and timelessness of Tamara's line.  I bought one of her satchels and a matching cosmetic bag five years ago and I still carry them to this day.  That's more than I can say for a lot of the bags I've bought!

Tamara Handbags are sold in stores throughout the country and you can also order them online.  If you live in the Boston area, be sure to check out the events section of her website to find shows and shopping events featuring Tamara's line.  You can also get information on how to throw your own Tamara Handbag party and get a complimentary bag for hosting!  But choosing just one may be impossible. Trust me.  My cart currently holds five of them.

Think you can choose just one of Tamara's bags?  You're in luck because she has generously offered to give a $50 gift certificate to one lucky AFOMFT reader!  To enter, visit Tamara Handbags and post a comment here telling me what you'll put the $50 credit toward if you win (this is mandatory).  For additional entries:
