Things to Do If You Are a Lawnmower: An Original Poem

Two weeks ago, the subject of my Poetry Friday post was grass. I posted a poem by Valerie Worth, an original acrostic, and one of my list poems entitled Things to Do If You Are Grass. Today, I have another list poem about a piece of yard equipment whose roar is ubiquitous during the summertime.

THINGS TO DO IF YOU ARE A LAWNMOWER

Rev your engine.
Roar across the lawn.
Wake up neighbors
At the break of dawn.
Chew up the green grass,
Spit it out.
Rage and rumble and growl and shout.
Stop your squawking
When your work is done.
Leave the cut grass lying in the sun.
Cool down your motor,
Roll to the shed.
Rest your weary wheels—
It’s time for bed.

At Blue Rose Girls, I have a poem by Kim Addonzio entitled "What Do Women Want?"
The Poetry Friday Roundup is at The Art of Irreverence.

I’ll be heading off for Washington DC tomorrow. I’ll be attending the Newbery/Caldecott Banquet at ALA. Grace Lin got tickets for the Blue Rose Girls. I’ll be sitting with them and with my poetry adviser Janet Wong. We BRG will probably be wearing blue roses—just as we did at Grace’s wedding.

Congratulations, Siddo!

O Captain! Our Captain!

Sidney Crosby has won this year's Mark Messier Leadership Award. :) It is his first win for a season. Previously, Siddo won it for the month of January 2007. Old timer Chris Chelios was the first winner of the annual version of the award (also given in 2007). This was the award most of you wanted our title man to win because it is given to the "individual who leads by positive example through on-ice performance, motivation of team members, and a dedication to community activities and charitable causes." Yep, I'd say that fits our Siddo to a T!!!

But... he was shut out of any major NHL awards, other than his shared win of the Rocket Richard for goal scoring. From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
Penguins center Sidney Crosby lost out on the Hart Trophy (MVP), Ted Lindsay Award (outstanding player) and a spot on the first NHL all-star team at the league awards tonight.

Crosby finished third in the Hart voting behind Washington's Alex Ovechkin and winner Henrik Sedin of Vancouver. Ovechkin won the Lindsay for a third straight season [snoop: *GAG!*], and Sedin was named first-team center.
Sedin = deserving. A-hOle™ = more like outstanding chokes-when-it-counts. But whatev. Sid doesn't need awards for us to appreciate what he has done for and what he means to this team.

Congratulations, Mr. Crosby. You've earned it. :)

On a personal note...

Thanks to all of you for being so understanding and especially for the well wishes as I work through my health issues. I love it that you're continuing to use The Friends' Zone to stay connected in the offseason.

For now I still have comment moderation turned on, but it's no longer because of Caps fan trolls. This time it's because The Show is getting spammed with some EXTRAORDINARILY vile links. Of course I haven't clicked any of the links to find out whether they're direct links to malware (probably) or links to what they say they are links to, but it doesn't matter. The words that are linked are disgusting and very offensive. Hopefully once they figure out I'm not going to allow that type of thing, maybe they'll go terrorize someone else and I'll be able to turn moderation off.

Luckily I have the Droid, so I can usually approve real comments within a few minutes of submission (unless I'm sleeping, haha!). So please keep the convos going and I'll be back to more regular activities here as soon as I can be.

Who Wants $50 Bucks? {GIVEAWAY}

The folks over at CSN Stores offered me a $50 credit to their store that I could use one of two ways - either for myself where I'd post a review of the product I selected, or as a giveaway to AFOMFT readers.  Call me crazy, but I chose to give it to one of you!  Yup, that's how much I love you guys.

CSN Stores is made up of more than 200 different sites that sell everything from dining room furniture and home goods to toys and handbags.  And I'll be honest - after browsing their stores, there were so many fabulous things that I wanted for myself that it was really hard for me to give up that credit.  But then I thought of you, dear readers, and tried to be strong.  Or something like that....

So what did I have my eye on?  I love kitchen goodies so this Le Creuset 10-Quart Roaster was high on my list.
And it's on sale from $112 to $49 so it would have been free.  Free!

Every time I watch Rachael Ray (which I admit is almost daily), I lust after her "Bubble and Brown" cookware.  At CSN Stores, her two-piece Stoneware set is just $35.

Buy these and you've still got another $15 to spend on something else!
I'm always a sucker for pretty bedding and the Lawrence Home Fashions Notte set would look lovely in our bedroom.

And we've got a few trips planned this summer, so a pretty carry on like the Amy Butler Graceful Traveler would come in very very handy.

But enough about things for me.  When I clicked over to the babies and kids stuff, I saw the Kidcraft Personalized Sling Bookshelf which would be a welcome addition to our living room.

Then I found the Banzoongi Kids Learning Cottage Play Tent :

Gabrielle and Alaina would go nuts for that!  And at just $55 with free shipping, it would only cost $5 after the credit. Who could turn that down?!

The truth is that after finding so many fun options for the $50 CSN Stores credit, I realized that I'd never be able to choose what I wanted so my loss is your gain!  Think you can decide on one thing to put it toward???

Then show me what it is!  To enter to win the $50 CSN Stores credit, visit any of their 200+ websites and post a comment here telling me what item or items you'll put the credit toward if you win along with a link to it (this is mandatory).  PLEASE NOTE: The $50 credit CANNOT be put toward shipping costs but it can be applied to a more expensive item if you'd like to pay the difference.  For additional entries:

Three Dresses and a Wedding

Some of us Blue Rose Girls (Grace, Libby, and I) have been preoccupied in recent weeks with what we’re going to wear to the Newbery/Caldecott Banquet this coming Sunday.

Grace wrote this post asking for blog readers' advice about three dresses she posted images of at Blue Rose Girls. She wanted their recommendations about which of the dresses she should wear for her big night at ALA.

Then Libby returned a beautiful pink silk dress that Grace had given her some time ago—telling Grace, “It’s perfect for the Newbery Banquet.” Read about it here.

Libby wrote a post about her “obsession” with finding the perfect dress for the ALA event. She posted pictures of a black silk Marimekko cocktail dress and a long emerald green dress (also Marimekko). But she hated the way the green dress—that she had bought on eBay—looked on her. After dress obsessing, Libby came to some conclusions about herself and decisions about what she should/shouldn’t do in the future.

Then there’s me. I had to find two dresses—one to wear to my daughter’s wedding in July and one to wear to the banquet in June. I was so happy when I found what I thought was the perfect mother-of-the-bride dress at a boutique in a nearby town several weeks ago. (I wrote about the dress here and here.) I ordered it in purple and waited for it to arrive.

Note: The dress pictured below is really a lovely deep purple color. I don't know why it looks blue in the photograph I took.

My FIRST Mother-of-the-Bride Dress

Then it was on to finding a dress for ALA. I looked and looked and looked—and finally tried on a style of dress that I never thought would look good on me. Long story short: The black dress looked much better on me than I had expected. I bought it and a short black chiffon evening jacket to wear with it. Both my daughter Sara and my husband liked it better than the mother-of-the-bride dress that I had already bought. Sara told me she thought the black dress was slimming and more flattering to my figure. She decided she wanted me to wear the black dress to her wedding.

The Black Dress

That didn’t leave me with a problem. I had two lovely dresses for two very special occasions. But in the back of my mind I began to think I looked heavier and wider in the purple dress than I did in the slim-fitting black dress. So…I went shopping again to see if I could find a dress that would be more “figure-flattering” than the mother-of-the-bride dress--a dress that I could wear to the ALA banquet. By luck, I found another slim-fitting dress—in purple—in my size. (It was the only dress in that style in the store.) I decided to buy it and get my daughter’s opinion. I tried it on last Sunday for Sara's and my husband's approval. They both liked the third dress best. So I’m wearing THAT dress to the wedding and the black dress to the Newbery/Caldecott Banquet. And the first dress I got is going to have to hang around in my closet—a dress in waiting for another special occasion.

The Third Dress

P.S. I'm not going dress shopping again...for a long, long time!!!

Enjoying God through nature and beauties of His creations

Dear Friends,

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank God for seeing us through another week. It's so good to be reminded on every Thursday to count my blessings and remember to give thanks and praise to God.

♥ Thank God for seeing me through another busy and tiring week, and giving me much joy and strength in Him daily.

♥ I thank God for the beauties of His creations. I thank God for giving me an opportunity and joy of going with my very dear Church Aunty, AR, to East Coast Beach, Singapore recently. AR stays near the Beach and we love to go there together. I particularly love the beach as it always remind me of the majesty of God. What a Great God we serve! He Who creates the beautiful nature around us, loves us and cares for us daily. We can cast all our anxieties upon Him. Whenever I am going through difficult time I like to go to beach and be reminded that God is so powerful and great. He loves me dearly and all my trouble are like just a drop of water in His sea of mercies. He can still all the storms in my life and see me safely through them.

I took this picture at East Coast Beach, Singapore

Be still, and know that I am God:
Psalm 46:10

♥ I thank God for giving us the gift of creativity and the new technology of photography to capture some of the beauties of His creations. Taking walks in the nature is one of my therapeutic hobbies.  Photography is another of my therapeutic hobbies. It gives me a lot of joy. I love to take pictures of nature, beach, flowers and the beauties of God's creations. Whenever I look back at these photos I will remember with joy the time I spend in nature and just bathing in God's love and the beauties of His creations. It brings such calmness and quietness to my heart.

Here are some photos and video I took of East Coast Beach, Singapore:
